Pulled the engine/trans, then got to hacking up the shell with a sawzall and a plasma cutter borrowed from work.
I managed to give away the fusebox and the window regulators, but that's all.
Pulled the whole car apart, trying to sell what I wouldn't be using, but it's a Passat. Passats get no love.
The syncro was also trailered home, the previous owner before the guy I bought it from had started to tear it down. How/why he had done what he had done made no sense to me. He pulled the grill off, pulled the headlights and radiator, but left the bumper on. And the best, which still makes no sense to me, he cut the tie-rods. Didn't pop them out or unscrew em, or take the ends off, he cut them with a torch. Every try moving a car with no tie rods? No fun. I ended up having to tug the syncro up into the garage with a come-along. Oh joy. Wonder what the neighbors thought.
You can see where this is heading.
About a year earlier, I had picked up a G60-Syncro Passat, with plans of some future project that hadn't happened yet.
Oddly, I don't have photos of any of that.
A 4 hour trailer ride later and it was home.
Picked up my first Corrado last summer, bit of a beater, actually. The price was pretty good, but the car needed serious work. To start with, as would be expected, the charger had blown up. The guy selling it had done a sort of bypass, but hadn't plugged the oil feed off very well, so it was spewing oil. Backing the car onto the trailer it dumped about a litre of oil. Fun. Messy.
Lots of info about that build over here: Rabbit TDI Project
The stable got bigger when I found a Rabbit Pickup. It has a mk4 TDI with VNT and full electronics. With a chip and injectors it's been dyno'd at 150hp at the wheels.
It's currently got a sliding ragtop and a 2L ABA/JH hybrid engine.
Been a bit of a VW guy since I got an A1/mk1 Jetta GLI 2dr in high school. It's been through many iterations, but never really finished.
Not sure where to start with this, maybe a bit of an introduction.
